45th Annual PAAOHN Conference

The 45th Annual PAAOHN Conference was recently held on December 12-14, 2007 at The Hershey Lodge in Hershey, PA.  With close to 50 attendees and 29 exhibitors, it was truly an exhilorating and networking experience.  Excellent speakers and topics were featured this year with a overall conference theme, "Occupational Issues in the 21st Century Workforce".  Members and chapters were recognized at the Annual Awards Banquet for the Dorothy Saller, Betty Mouldar, President's Award and Chapter Membership and Achievement Awards.  In addition special recognition was given to Irene Fridinger for her 31 years of dedication to occupational health nursing.  The conclusion of the conference was met with a visit from Governor Edward Rendell who discussed the State's healthcare legislative issues including Prescription for PA, No Child Left Behind and other healthcare issues.

Awards and Recognitions - Members and Chapters are Honored at the Awards Banquet

Dorothy Saller Outstanding Nurse Award - This year's recipient is Jan Getz, RN, BS, COHN-S/CM from Central Chapter.  Jan is the Medical Services Supervisor at Alcoa Mill Products in Lancaster.  This award is designed to recognize outstanding service to OH throuhg exceptional performance of professional responsibilities. Betty Mouldar Award for Clinical Practice - This year's recipient is Peggy Hengeveld, RN from Central Chapter.  Peggy is a retired Colonel in the Army National Guard where she is assigned in a civilian position to the joint HQs as the Director of Safety and Occupational Health. She is currently working on her PhD in Health Care Administration.
PAAOHN Achievement Award - This year's recipient is Susquehanna Valley.  Accepting the award is Kim Olszewski, Chapter President PAAOHN Membership Award - this year's recipient is Central Chapter.  Accepting the award is Nancy VanBlargan, Chapter President
PAAOHN President's Award - This year's recipient is Betty Bauman, RN, COHN-S/CM.  Chosen by the President, this award is presented to a PAAOHN Board member for their dedication and contributions to PAAOHN. PAAOHN Special Recognition - PAAOHN honors and recognizes Irene Fridinger for her years of tremendous dedication to the profession of occupational health nursing. As a founding member of the Central Chapter in 1972, Irene has been a CPAOHN/PAAOHN member for 35 years!
PAAOHN Special Recognition - PAAOHN honors and recognizes Judy Rudinsky for her year of commitment and dedication to the PAAOHN Board.    

Governor Edward Rendell Speaks to Nurses at PAAOHN Conference

Thanks to Nancy VanBlargan who coordinated the visit of Governor Edward Rendell at the conclusion of this year's conference on Friday, December 14, 2007.  Governor Rendell spent 45 minutes with members of our association discussing many key healthcare issues on his agenda.  It was truly an exhilorating end to a terrific conference!
